Halloween is a holiday filled with pumpkin patching, haunted hayrides, Halloween games, and trick or treating but carving pumpkins has to be one of my favorites activities (besides eating all the leftover Halloween candy at my house). But how do you carve the best pumpkin for Halloween?
1) Find the perfect pumpkin!
There are several different places you can go to get an awesome pumpkin. You can stop at a local pumpkin stand, a grocery store, a convenient store, or make a day out of it and stop at a pumpkin patch. Some pumpkin patches near Maple Grove are;
- Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze located in Brooklyn Park, MN
- Dehn’s Pumpkins in Dayton, MN
- Minnetonka Orchards in Minnetrista, MN
- Knapton’s Raspberries, Pumpkins & Orchard in Rockford, MN
2) Scoop out ALL the pumpkin seeds!
The best way I have found to get all the seeds out is to wear a rubber glove and use a plastic scraper found in the pumpkin carving kits! Make sure to put down a paper towels or newspaper down so you have a place to dump the pumpkin guts!
3) Draw your design on your pumpkin with a pencil before carving
There are several designs you can purchase in the store or print out at home! I prefer to make my pumpkins simple by drawing a mouth, nose, and eyes with a pencil on the pumpkin.
4) Add props!
This is a fun way to get creative this Halloween! The dollar store sells a lot of good props you can use to ‘spice’ up your pumpkin!
Happy Carving!
